Meetings are Meaningful: Tips for Introducing New Dogs
Want to introduce dogs but not sure where to start? Here are some tips for introducing new dogs to each other.
Meet at a neutral territory:
When introducing dogs it is best to meet in a space that is neutral to both dogs. This prevents any territorial issues seeing how neither dog has any real claim to this space.
Go on a walk:
Start by walking the dogs parallel with each other. This helps create neutrality and puts them in a calmer state of mind. Feel free to take as much space apart as your dog needs. Slowly bring them closer while walking together.
Train together:
Training together shows dogs they can be around each other while focusing on different jobs. Again, creating a neutrality between the dogs.
Use your leash:
The leash is a powerful communication tool so having both dogs on leash helps you communicate with your dog. We do not suggest them going nose to nose on leash though, this is just so you can have control of both dogs while they get used to being around each other during the introduction process.
